Biography

Professor Miodrag Simović is a Full Professor of Criminal Procedural Law at Faculty of Law, University of Banja Luka, and at Faculty of Law in Bihać. He was born in Foča in 1952. He graduated at Faculty of Law in Novi Sad as one of the best students. In 1981, he got his MA degree and in 1985 he defended his PhD thesis, also at Faculty of Law in Novi Sad. After graduation, he was employed at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Justice and Administration of Bosnia and Herzegovina. From 30.01.1991. until 25.10.1993. he was on the position of Vice Premiere of Srpska Republic and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Professor Simović was the judge of Constitutional Court of Srpska Republic from 24.12.1998. until 13.05.2003. when he became the judge of Constitutional Court.

In 2003, he was elected to be the Vice President of Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and re-elected in May 2006. He performed the duties of the President of Constitutional Court from 30.05.2009. until 26.05.2012, when he became the Vice President of the Court once again.

Moreover, Professor Somović is a member of the Board for Legal Sciences at the Department for Social Sciences of the Academy of Science and Art of Srpska Republic and the manager of Clinic for Criminal Procedural Law at Faculty of Law in Banja Luka. He is also a member of the Presidential Board of Association of Jurists of Srpska Republic and a redaction member at six scientific journals. Besides, Professor Simović is the editor of Belgrade journal “Judicial Practice” for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

During his academic career, Professor Simović has published more than 400 scientific articles and papers, and a series of books, the most significant of which are: Criminal Procedural Law of Srpska Republic (2 editions), published in Banja Luka in 1997, Criminal Procedural Law published in Eastern Sarajevo in 2001, Criminal Procedures in Bosnia and Herzegovina – a collection of procedural laws with introductory remarks and registry of terms, published in Sarajevo in 2004, Practical Comment of Law on Criminal Procedure of Srpska Republik, published in Banja luka in 2005, Criminal Procedural Law – Introduction and Genaral Part, published in Bihać in 2005 and Criminal Procedural Law – Special Part, published in Banja Luka in 2006.
